Aya and Tano are back in the Bay Area this winter and will be holding a Balkan/Greek vocal workshop!

This vocal class is designed for people who are interested in stepping into or diving deeper into the world of Balkan and Greek singing. It is geared toward both beginners and intermediate students. The goal is for students to add a variety of beautiful songs to their repertoire, to learn technique which makes Balkan and Greek singing what they are, and to have fun singing in a group! We will go over 2~3 songs in this workshop. We will go over pronunciation, melody, how layers are made in this style of music, and ornamentation.

The Aya & Tano Collective is an eclective musical project led by Aya Safiya and Tano Brock. They are a performance group as well as a workshop, providing guidence in Greek and other Balkan group singing skills. Both instructors are accomplished musicians of these styles, and in the past two decades of their studies they’ve had the pleasure of learning from master singers such as Katerina Papadopoulou from Greece and Merita Halili from Albania. They have performed at renowned venues such as Drom, the Great American Music Hall, as well as Greek festivals in the US and in Greece.
