Rocky’s Market Brooklyn Basin kicks off its season with the beloved Bay Area Balkan music party, Kafana Balkan, featuring a raucous performance by LA based Axon Orkestra. Creative forces collide in this eclectic off-the-beaten-path musical mix, merging urban and village music styles, percussive strings and irresistible rhythms. Between them, the members of Axon have called nearly a dozen countries home and their global roots resonate in every note. Get ready to dance!

Axon features virtuoso violinist Fabrice You (of FishTank Ensemble) + guitar genius Dusty Brough + multifaceted virtuoso double bass player Miles Jay, all accompanied by the modern Balkan grooves of Marco Peris Coppola (of Inspector Gadje).

Tonight’s performance also features special guest Eva Scow, mandolinist and violinist. Born in Fresno, CA to a Oaxacan mother and an American father, Eva began playing music at age 4. She has collaborated with world renowned artists including David Grisman and Edgar Meyer, and shared stages with the likes of Willie Nelson. Equally at home in classical, folk and jazz, she has performed and toured across the world from Carnegie Hall to the International Festival du Mandoline in Lunel, France.

DJ Željko lovingly promotes Balkan music and culture by producing Kafana Balkan roughly 3 times a year. KB event has won "The Best of" both Bay Guardian and SF Weekly weekly newspapers. Since February 2015, he's been joined by Marco Peris Coppola as Co Producer, who is helping Kafana Balkan grow.
