Istanbul Connection is a Bay Area musical collective formed when thirteen members of the hottest Balkan and Latin bands were gravitationally pulled to visit the city of Istanbul. With a mind towards cross-cultural connection and sonic expansion, these die-hards flew 7,000 miles to represent a piece of the the Bay Area music scene. In the process, they have cemented themselves as a supergroup of groove and since their epic beginnings, the band has performed sold-out-show after sold-out-show. They continue to draw their inspiration from the Turkish Maqam, Flamenco, Rumba, Balkan, and Cumbia they are are so deeply rooted in. Come prepared to dance!
Lalin is a Haitian-American singer/songwriter based in California. She began to sing at the age of five, learning to play piano by ear and teaching herself to play the acoustic guitar. Since then Lalin has been enamored with this form of expression - from busking on street corners and singing traditional Haitian music to sharing the stage with Hiatus Kaiyote and Macy Gray as the front woman of electronic band The Seshen. Possessing a firm belief that the personal is political, Lalin's music explores identity, the power of rewriting narratives, and the nuances of intimacy alongside other subjects that seek to explore our relationships to ourselves, each other, and our present-day and historical conext. Musically inspired by a variety of genres and artists from Erykah Badu to Nick Drake, Lalin is creating an electro-acoustic set that seeks to engage your heart while you bob your head with the use of live production sampler
